So this happened. I’ve been watching the intriguing Swedish scifi series ‘Äkta Människor’ (Real Humans) about a near future society with hubots- androids meant for human use (as in servants, sex toys, etc.). Most just fulfill their duties, but others have gone seriously rogue. Add to this an anti-hubot movement called Äkta Människor (like the series title) by humans that hate these A.I. workers who for the most part look just like people, but with USB ports and retractable plugs.

Seeing that I don’t know any Swedish and can’t find subtitles anywhere (fail, internet, FAIL) I’ve been watching without understanding everything but since it’s so good I watch anyway. I love realistic robot scifi, plus DIVERSITY. They do this in Sweden.

I sit there trying to make things out on my own. Sometimes I just make the characters say ridiculous passive aggressive stuff and swear words in my head. I get frustrated sometimes but for the most part I just want to know what happens next.

I sent out this tweet to see if anyone was listening (since there are so many tweets in Swedish with the show’s hashtag), and YES! Harald Hamrell answered. Yeah I didn’t know who he was either but I looked him up and he actually directed the series (from what I gather, it’ll be ten episodes). Very cool of him to respond.

It’s so nice to know that in a few months I’ll be able to buy the series with subtitles and have all my questions answered. Maybe by then there will be a fan forum in English to discuss important things like why there are no petbots.

Or maybe I’ll start one.
